Visiion’s Artificial Intelligence: A Step Forward in Social Protection

Visiion Presentation at the UN: AI by CEO Alberto Serra

On May 7th, I had the honor of presenting at the United Nations headquarters in New York our vision on how artificial intelligence (AI) can contribute to the protection of victims of gender-based violence and other components of the social protection system.

At Visiion, we have been dedicated to social and human development for over 20 years, always focused on improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable sectors. Our experience has allowed us to create innovative solutions, and the implementation of AI in the Comprehensive Care Model against Gender-Based Violence is one of our most recent and significant achievements.

Visiion’s Innovation in Action

During my presentation, I introduced our AI tool designed to assist phone lines that support women victims of violence. This AI assistant analyzes the available information associated with the call, generating summaries that enable teleoperators to provide more personalized and effective care. Additionally, while the call is being recorded, the AI transcribes the conversation and detects critical risk patterns, such as the possible presence of a weapon in the home. These patterns help teleoperators build a risk profile and make informed decisions about the next course of action.

This tool is an innovation within the Comprehensive Care Model against Gender-Based Violence, and its application is essential in a context where gender-based violence is a global pandemic affecting millions of women. According to UN studies, nearly one in three women has been a victim of physical or sexual violence, and on average, five women or girls are murdered every hour by someone in their own family. These alarming numbers drive us to seek effective and timely solutions.

The Fundamental Role of AI

Artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly transform current intervention models. In my speech, I reflected on how AI can assist in the early identification of cases, risk prediction, and timely intervention. However, I also emphasized the importance of proper governance to mitigate bias risks, address ethical issues, and protect individual rights and the well-being of society.

This practical application of our tool is just the beginning. We are in the first stage of a continuous process of research and implementation of AI in all components of the Comprehensive Care Model against Gender-Based Violence. The next stage will be to analyze how this technology can be applied in other areas of social protection, such as social household registries. We firmly believe that a correct and incremental application of this technology will help reduce the gap between the current social situation and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda goals.

Our Commitment at Visiion

At Visiion, we are committed to using our knowledge, technology, and innovation to actively contribute to improving the lives of the most vulnerable people. The implementation of AI in social protection is another step toward our goal of a more just and safer world for everyone. We are excited about the future and the possibilities that this technology offers to transform society.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have shared our vision at the UN, and we will continue to work diligently to develop solutions that make a real difference.
